Got the fan wired to a switch. The fan powers up no problem when the amp is off. However, when I turn the amp on and then flip the switch for the fan, the amp shuts down.

How big is this 5 volt fan? How much current does it draw?
5.6 volt is stand-by source - 2SD1387 should handle up to 2 amps if I read the datasheet correctly.

I assume they run with no problem on a 5 volt external supply.
Must be too much of a load when hooked to the standby supply.
Could try off one of the 9 volt or higher supplies, maybe with a three-terminal 5 volt regulator IC?

The download manual is self sufficient usually for all well defined brands.Have to go through it pretty thoroughly and is sure to get what is needed to fix up the system.

I tried running it off one of the 9v supplies. Amp powered up no problem, but as soon as I turned the fan on the display lights shut off but the unit stayed on. After turning the fan off, the lights come back on but are all messed up (some lit up that werent before, some blinking)

After a few minutes of studying the service manual I noticed the "System Control" outputs/inputs. System control 3 has both a + and - 12v output. The fans came wired in parallel, and nearly burned up when I connected them to the 12v source. After re wiring the fans in series I was able to make it all work. Thanks to everyone that helped.
