Hi all, my first post here.
I have a faulty Sony Plasma TV and was wondering if it is safe to disconnect the sustain pcbs and then power it up so i can carry out V checks?
I have looked at another plasma before and unplugged the Xsus board, plugged it in and the psu melted. I wonder whether it was just coincidence!
I knw i havent posted any details re the tv (model etc), but thought I would see what i can gain from the checks first
Many thx

How about following the procedures in the service manual for your specific model. |

As far as i was aware there wasn't a REAL service manual for this Plasma!
Anyway, I exchanged the 4 bulging caps on this Plasma
(model = KE-42TS2/E)
4x 2200uf caps on the psu. I heard it was a common fault on these (as there are repair kits available consisting of these 4 caps ). No joy, but they needed changing anyway.
I suspect the Ysus board, but I am struggling with the main fan. I was told it was temp controlled but someone on another forum said it comes on straight away, mine doesn't (no V+). I did short out the fan return to gnd in case it was sensing a low speed.
Anyway, not sure if that is the problem.
anyone have any thought about the fan control?
Or anything else?
Many thx |

You better use an isolation transformer when you test it under power or you may get a nice shock. |

what a strange service manual, nothing at all mentioned re the sustain boards OR psu (switching regulator).
I have seen a few manuals in my time (although not many plasma sm), but not one where all the main circuits are missing.
Back to square one i'm afraid.
thx anyway |

Posting the model and what it's doing or not doing is a good start. |
