inkjet cartridges - contacts, and mode of operation

Hi,

I use the Lexmark Z2390 for printing.

It takes cartridges nos. 4 (black), 5 (colour) and 31 (photo).

Are there any diagrams or tutorials that will give me information about the electrical contacts?

On a related point. I was wondering how the photcart works in concert with the colour cartridge. For example, if I am printing a graphic that contains, say, various shades of magenta, then how does the printer know which cartdidge to use?
