Even at that price for the front assembly ($54+), it looks like I would have to disassemble the entire Dream Machine. Sounds a bit daunting. Have you taken one similar to this apart before? |
Yup, that is the case for most of the small portable stuff and where the term "disposable" started. I have always been a fan of fixing things but obviously there is a limit. Depending on the model and what is involved, it can be a real pain in the ***--or turn in to one. For someone who is willing to take the time, has some experience or does it often, it is not that bad though.
Specifically, I can not tell you how easy/hard this model is since I never came across it.
btw, for what it's worth, Sony direct has it listed for $47.38-- but NOT in stock.. oh well

$50+ is definately not worth it.
Too bad. Now all of my emails from ESI will be those dang Russian private messages. |

Could carefully take the piece you need off the New part and carefully snap it onto your unit. |

My guess is that to remove the old one I would have to break off the tabs and they would fall into the unit. That could be bad. Otherwise, they may have to be pushed from the inside to facilitate their normal removal.
Thanks, Lar |

The New one you'ld have good access to (for practice), and I don't think you care about old one. Then there's the age of the plastic issue (brittle). Anyway since it's too much moolah... |

It's times like these that an item gets added to my thrift shop list. Now it just takes patience.
Thanks to all!!

Thanks for the info!
It confirms that I remain in the same dilemma. The new front section is almost $50. Not worth it. The cover assy is only for a little bezel around some buttons, not the main clear display cover (which is apparently not separately removable). |

What do you have? A scratched front? By the LCD?
On page 29 in the service manual, is the part refernece# 114, 102, or LCD401 ?
If it's scratched maybe you can polish out the scratches with a Lexan type polish for plastics. |

I wish it was scratched. It fell off of the nightstand and the large clear plastic front cover has a big starburst crack in it. |
