how do you identify the size of a a dc power connector?

Hi,

I need to identify the size of a dc power connector for my camcorder's power adapter, so I can order a new one , but I have no Idea how to measure the size of it.

In case I am naming the part wrong, it looks like the second one down labeled size k coaxial cable power plug

If the DC connector is of the old, "de facto standard" type, then it is defined by the diameter of the center pin of the jack and by the plug's outside diameter, both usually given in mm.

However, there is also a newer, more formalized standard for DC plugs, EIAJ RC-5320. Those are available in at least 5 different styles, each one intended for a certain voltage range. They are not defined by size, but by a "Class number". The classes are given with roman digits, i.e. Class I, II, III, IV and so on.
