12v Symphonic VCR problem

I have a 12v Symphonic VCR that I got a used. The first time I used it, it worked great, but the second time and since then, everytime I put a tape in, I get a rolling image and/or lots of noise lines. I tried using a head cleaner and it didn't help. I even took the unit apart and leaned the head with alcohol and still no better.

The strangest part is, that if I don't use it for a day or more, the first time I use it, the picture looks almost perfect and stays that way until I eject the tape. Any ideas?

Make sure tape is riding on the guides without curling at top or bottom edge. Also make sure loading arms are fully down their tracks and seated properly.
