Magnavox Star Console TV

I have a friend who has a floor model magnavox star tv.
She says the picture went out and then the sound
got wierd and went out too. She says there was an "acid" smell.
Sounds like the HV transformer went.
Is this worth repairing? She really wants to keep the console tv.
