Tv comes on but will not pick up any stations on air or cable. Will show dvds however. Do you think the tuner went out? If so, how do I fix it?

Your choice: (assumes you had the antenna or cable wire connected)
a) Repair the Tuner
b) Replace the Tuner or
c) Replace the Television

Depending on how much effort you want to put into the repair, it is easier just to get a cheap set top box or an old VCR to handle the channel changing.
