Correct. The vertical ic fails on sony's. If that doesn't fix it let us know.

IF THE LINES ARE VERTICAL IE TOP TO BOTTOM THEN VERT STAGE IS OK AND FAULT IS IN LINE, UNUSUAL TO GET LINE FAULT AND TUBE TO BE LIT, CHECK FOR DRY JOINTS BETWEEN LOPTX AND SCAN COILS ESPECIALLY RIVETS WHERE LEADS ATTACH TO SCAN COILS THEMSELVES

Vertical is left to right. Horizontal is top to bottom. Loss of vertical deflection is a compressed screen. Thin white line middle of the screen. From the left hand to the right hand. And it’s not “dry joint’s.” Cold solder joints.

vertical scan failure results in a thin horizontal line ACROSS the screen ie left to right, you can prove this by removing the vertical output ic, a vertical line is a line fault as the scan is not being driven HORIZONTALLY ie left to right, AND IS A VERY RARE FAULT,

THINK about that a minute......
I guess we all walk up and down walls, too.

Most people here haven’t gone to school for this. Yes it’s the opposite. This is how I describe it to people that don’t know. Knock your socks off describing it the right way. I thought people came here for help not grammar lessons.
