My TV is approx 2 yrs old and has a reddish tint when the screen is dark or black and has several horizontal lines that are reddish tint that can't be seen when there is a bright picture but during dark pauses are obvious. I've screwed around in the service part of the TV with convergence/geometry with minimal help. Any ideas? Also, is there a way to reset all the service settings to factory default?
Thanks in advance... |

What happens when you turn the Red Brightness down or up?
Does it get better or worse? |

In the front of the set under the speaker grill is an access to the screen/focus control. Go to an unused video input where you can see the red retrace and turn your red screen down till the lines disappear. |

In that case. do what minnie said and remove the speaker cover of the front of the set (just pull it)
There is a plastic cover (quite large) screwed on to the front.
Behind it is the Guns and a panel with adjustments for FOCUS and BRIGHTNESS for each gun.
You may need two of you, one person to sit back and take a look while you adjust the focus and brightness.
I sugest turning the brightness down on all guns so the screen goes black.
Turn the brightness up on the red gun a little until you can see the picture. Adjust the focus if neccesary to get a sharp picture.
Turn the brightness back down again and go on to the next colour.
Do this with all guns. Once you have finished, turn up the brightness one by one but not to much. just enough to be able to see the picture. Use the brightness adjustment on the remote to bring it up to a decent viewing level.
Let me know if this does or doesn't sort it. |

The only other thing I can think of is screen burn..
Do the lines move or are they always in the same place? |

Sounds like retrace. If you turn screen up you see lines. Ask Sony! If turning down the red screen doesn't get rid of the lines, bad tube. |
