Samsung CLX3175fn Scan problem

Ihave a samsung clx3175fn mfp that seems to scan strange when you use the doc handler if i place a doc in the feeder and press the black
button it squishes the image top to bottom the width remains correct
but top to bottom the image only occupies half a page.
if i press the color button it scans and prints just fine samsung
says they have never heard of this any ideas would be appreciated
