I just shipped my Proscan 42 inch flat screen TV across the country and when I unpacked it I noticed right away that the red IR receiver on the front was not lit up. Sure enough, I can operate the tv using the hard buttons on the front, but nothing using the remote. Am I correct in assuming that my IR receiver isn't working? Is this something that I can replace or repair at home. The tv is no longer under warranty.

Thanks for your advice...
Todd

I haven't worked on a Proscan before but based on your description, it would be logical that your problem happened due to shipping vibration.
I'd take the back off and have a look at the IR area. Many times, they just hold the PCB on with clips and it might have fallen out or perhaps a wire came off or got pinched. It wouldn't hurt to have a look.

Good one, jts1957. How easy it is to forget the basics. You can also verify the remote is working by pointing the remote at a camcorder, digital camera, etc. As you push buttons on the remote, the digital CCD unit in your camera is able to pick up on the infrared light coming from the remote and you'll see it light up on the camera.
