My dlp tv turns on and the lamp will light up. After about 25 seconds the picture will go black, I still have sound. Then after 25 seconds or so the lamp will power up again. This keeps going on and on. Can someone point me in the right direction. Should I change the lamp or ballast, it is the original lamp in there and the tv is 6 yrs old. Sometimes it works and you can watch tv for hours. Also when it does it, the pwr led stays lit and nothing is blinking. plz help. thank you |

I read that part of the book, but I guess my question is; is it possible for the lamp to turn on and off like that? I know it is not a thermal issue because the tv can be cold and it does it right away. The lamp always turns on initially, but after 25 seconds it begins the cycle of turning on and off in 25 second intrevals. I have not checked the input voltage to the ballast board and the output of the ballast board to see if they go away when the lamp turns off. I am an electronciss tech by trade but I am not a tv tech. I have fixed several projection screen tv's in the past through the help of this site though. This tv was a freebie but I don't want to spend 100.00 for a new bulb if you all think that it may be something else, or is this the place to start. Any guidence will be appreciated, feel free to speak the electronics theory to me, I will understand it. Thanks everyone.

You admit TV is second-hand.
You admit it's the "original" bulb.
So unless you know that the set was previously owned by a "little old lady" who ONLY used the set once a year to watch "The Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon," the best "test" is substitution. _________________ You're over there, I'm over here. |
