password after powering up

when I turn on my sony vaio 7y2l laptop it shows my name, my icon, and asks for my password which for the life of me I can't remember. I've tried everything I can think of. There is an option to reset password, but it asks for removable disc, which I didn't have one. At my wits end. What do I do about this as am a novice on subject.
