pioneer DVD player "Welcome to DVD World/BYE"!

Hi, I gfound a pironner 5-disk DVD player model DVD-CV50 that when i turn it on it comes on and Displays "Welcome to DVD World" and when i turn it off i get the "BYE" message but that's about all it does .. have already checked all the connections and took all the ribbon cables out and put back in again to make sure there were no loose connections .. any idea what the problem could be and if t is an easy fix .. thanks all.
