I have a SONY STR KSL5 home cinema system which after about 5 mins shuts off with the word "PROTECT" in the displa. There are no shorts on the speaker cables. If I switch off then back on again 10 mins later it will work for about 5mins then go off again. |

Today I noticed the same. But after few power-offs for now works perfectly. I you will know what is the reason, let me know.

turn it off, wait till the device cools down, plug in
it's worked in my case |

I know the reason... In my case it was a bad soldering at the (5) Amplifier-IC below the aluminium heat-sink.
Only make the solderings new and it´ll work fine. I´ve done that at my KSL5 4 years ago and it still works without "PROTECT"

Yes, and ...that was it! I re-soldered the five IC's, and IT WORKS PERFECTLY!

i have the same problem with this amplifier.
Can you help me to solve it? Wich is the Amplifier-IC to resolder? Can you tell me the procedure that you have used to repair it? |

Finally i have solved the problem!
The IC to solder is the 501 in my case. And now all works fine! For anyone that has this problem, check the welds under the plate for the five IC: 501 ic 601 ic701 ic751 etc....
