Stupid question - Power rating of Adapter

Hello

Newbie with a daft question.

I have an in-car DVD player with cigar lighter adapter.

I want to use it indoors.

I have an adapter with output 12v 1A

The DVD player says it needs 12V 1.25A

(The car adapter has outpu 12V 2.5A)

Can I use the 12v 1A adapter safely??

Sorry if this is a really dumb question but I have previously set a cam corder on fire by using the wrong adapter!!!!

As a rule of thumb, your source supply should match the requirement of the device. You should have at least 1.25 amp or more of a 12V source.

What is the most important is the polarity(positive/negative) configuration of the connecting plug ; It MUST match or it can cause damage.

Don't know your location but I was in Woolworths in the U.K yesterday and noticed a 240V AC TO 12V DC adapter with a current rating of over 5A with a variety of plugs to fit different equipment for less than £20.
