NEC plasma pixellates after 3 minutes

NEC plasma model PX-42VM3A.

It powers on and looks great for 3 minutes, then the image starts to pixellate and soon it is totally unwatchable. After it's off for an hour or so, all is OK for another 3 minutes.

Doesn't matter which input is used.

Is this a common problem?

With a known solution?

I had a similar issue with an LG. Ended up being the memory on the video processor/decoder board.
