ok thanks its a tx25ad1dp. i had a look at the video board and it shares the same ic 601. is this an expensive part and where should i look for one cheers.

I would advise taking the set to a Panasonic dealer to confirm this and obtain an estimate as they are expensive as some are supplied as a kit with an eprom with so many different versions.
If this is the case then some dealers would not charge an estimate if you purchase another set and you could use this one in another room as it still works on r.f.
This fault symptom is known as it is listed in the uras database and is probably listed in the Panasonic technical website that dealers have access to also.
Alternatively use the sky and vcr sockets so that the vcr and sky are connected through r.f instead of t.v scart. The one that would be a problem would be the dvd if it has macrovision and this would be shown in the dvd booklet.

the likely culprit is as others have suggested ic601 the vdp3108-25. unfortunately this ic is an obsolete part, there are other mask versions but they are not interchangeable , your only chance is to find a 2nd hand one from a scrap set but many of these are scrapped because of this ic,
