a hot and nuetral in a motor circut. I have a brain freeze.

I guessed it was for arc suppression but would like to know![/code]

Yes, in DC cicuits it is mainly used as arc/noise suppresion. Rather common in Automotive application. However a different story with AC application where it is usually used as a "start" & run capacitors mainly for high torque motors.
