Sony SLV-795HF VCR error code?

I'm trying to repair a mechanical problem on this machine...

If you enter stop or play while the machine is in fast forward or rewind (or allow it to go to the end of the tape and stop by itself), the deck will stop and the loading motor will run for a few seconds, then the deck will shut down and display the error code "3L 10cc".

If you wait for 10 seconds more, the machine will reset & work until it has to stop in fast wind again, then it will go back into the same failure mode. Tape loads, plays, and ejects correctly when not in this failure mode.

Mode switch removed, cleaned, and replaced - did not fix problem.

I would appreciate any help. or any info on what the error code means.
